Thanks guys, thought the shot was crud, best I could have got at time. Was in this area for 3 hours and got shot. Was chasing other butterflies around and looked under cuckoo flowers for something, and there it was.

Well, that's made my year!!

I'm normally a very competitive person, but in the company of so many brilliant photographers I feel a warm glow of pride just getting on the scoreboard! Congratulations, Dave and Mike, and as always, well done to everyone for keeping the standard of pictures so high.

I was thinking of themes for the next competition Pete: how about 'Butterflies near dogs. In the mountains'. Might give me a realistic chance of winning outright...

Well done Dave. I thought your pic deserved my vote because of its rarity and also because of the time and effort you must have put in to get it. I liked Ian Pratt's pale tussock moth larva as well, but one can only vote once.

I liked Ian Pratts Pale Tussock Moth larvae too, but I voted for TWs Apollo larvae, basically cause I love them for some reason.

Here is another shot I got that day of more orange-tip caterpillars (Young): (One on a cuckoo flower, just see head)



I had nothing to do that day, so decided to take myself off for 3 hours or so in morning and got these shots. Hard enough finding them, but harder still focusing on something that small was really hard

Congrats Dave, Mike & Guy, some very nice images, but Mike got my vote this time round.

I voted for Dave as this was a most unusual and clever shot. which must have taken time, skill and patience, brilliant.

I also really liked Paul Kipling's White letter Hairstreak A very sharp image which also takes skill to find and photograph. Excellent.

Gwenhwyfar's Sycamore Moth was beautiful, V6GTO's Lime Hawk moth and Ian Pratt's Pale tussock moth were also very good.

I was surprised that the Marsh Frit larva by Gruditch, the Peacock cats by roundwood123 and Colin Baker's Grayling ova didn't get any votes, all very good and interesting pictures.

Well done to everyone that entered and thank you to the person that voted for me. I am totally chuffed.
