Yippee!! I've come first!
OK - if people are going for
really close up, here's that famous blue spot in all its scale-by-scale glory (taken this July in the Val d'Aran)! I don't think it's a winning photo but it's quite an interesting view:

A plain old clouded yellow, always a special butterfly, photographed this summer (the rules say in the month of the competition, but I guess that's relaxed in December).

Having said that, clouded yellows
are December butterflies round my parts...
