I remember Guy saying I would have fun working out what I had seen... how right ..... I need help with these, I have called them all oeme, but I know medusa is similar.... I know these shots are a bit fuzzy, but what do you think? There could even be epiphron here! All these were in the first (wet) week in July 07
The first was in the Alpine valley past Samoens, same specimen:-

Second, west of samoens, again same specimen:-

Sorry - I've been very busy with the end of term preparations and have hardly visited UK Butts at all recently.

I'll have a more detailed look at these on a day when I don't have to get four exams written by tomorrow, but my first impressions are that the first insect (two pictures) is medusa and the others oeme. I found medusa flying at altitude quite late this year and the first butterfly has a lot of the jizz of this species, as well as apparently pale antennal tips.

I don't think any of them are epiphron. Oeme and medusa are the two whose undersides match their uppersides, as all these do.

Must get back to composing impossible maths posers.

Guy,

thanks very much again!.. I really appreciate your thoughts & experience here. Will re-label No 1 medusa ( gives me one more species seen!!!!)... let me know if you think again.

Rather you than me with the maths!
