Hi,

Pat & I went down to Pennington Marshes on Thursday following reports of Wall on the Hants & IOW BC website. I was very happy to find these very fresh looking third brood Walls. Also bumped into Pauline Richards who was hunting the same butterflies. Saw around 10 altogether.

First Mrs Wall

And now Mr wall

Hi Robin,

Nice Mr Wall, very colourful. I have never seen one yet, maybe next year. Won't be this year. Cool :)

Nice shots of Mr & Mrs Wall, we've looked for these three times this year at Pennington and never found any. :(

Well done, Robin!

What elusive, but very striking, butterflies these are!

I sometimes feel quite envious of those of you who live down south, until I read a thread like this. The wall is a species I see every year at various sites in my local patch, one of which is only 10 minutes walk from home. So maybe Yorkshire ain't such a bad place to live after all!

Like David, not rare about my parts... they sometimes frequent the garden. However, the difference is that there are still tattered second brood individuals to be seen here. A third brood?? that will be a nice Christmas present!!

You'll love it.

Robin and Pat.

Those are impressive photos with excellent resolution and good depth of field.

What camera, settings, etc do you use?

Thanks.

Jack

Hi Jack,
My camera is a Canon 20D and I was using a Sigma 150mm f2.8 APO macro lens. I always use Aperture Priority. ISO 400.
The males exposure was 1/160 sec at f/16. Although I also took shots at f/11 and f/9.
The female was 1/400 sec at f/9.
Hope that helps,
Robin
