Help With Iden. Please

Post by elizium »

Can anyone help with these two pictures please. They were both taken in the same area on the same day. Both butterfly`s were quite small and both flew really close to the ground. Thanks

First is Lycaena phlaeas, but the second one is a bit more challenging.

Hi elizium,
The first one I think is a Small Copper and the second maybe a female Common Blue. I could well be wrong but it's my best guess

...and just to add that the small copper is form caerulopunctata - that is, it has attractive blue spots inside the copper band on the hindwing.
