I posted a picture of a Lang's Short-tailed Blue on the site the other day but I am not sure if these are Long-tailed Blues or Lang's.

Anyone any ideas. Thanks

Paul

I'd say both are Leptotes pirithous, but the angle in the first picture is less than optimal.

Yep...sure look like Lang's Short-tailed Blue to me.

Do you mind telling where exactly did you find them? The species is a migrant so it probably won't matter, but still it might be nice to check the place if I happen to go there again. Besides, I'm still missing a picture of live specimen. :(

I saw a few and am surprised no-one has reported any before. Perhaps it was their first year on the island.

The picture on my other submission to this site earlier in the week was taken in a park near the casino in Funchal, the Parque de Santa Caterina (excuse the spelling, if it's wrong) and I took the photos on this topic in the Jardin de Sao Francisco at the end of town nearest to the Parque de Santa Caterina.

I was wondering if the first picture was of a Long-tailed Blue. If it's not then I'm not sure I saw one but instead saw several Lang's, a strange situation considering the Long-tailed is the accepted resident of the two on Madeira.

Thanks for everyone's help yet again
Regards, Paul.

So it was inside Funchal. Thanks! I've seen the other one in a couple of places between the sea and the beach boulevard between Lido and Ajuda.
