Mill Hill, Shoreham

Post by Bryan H »

I paid my second visit to this reserve yesterday.

How educational to see Adonis, Common and Chalkhills flying together! (The Chalkhills were very faded and tatty, mind you)

Just as I was taking this in I saw my first ever Clouded Yellow, which unfortunately was in no mood for stopping!

I got my first half-decent Adonis with wings open:

I spent some time with this acrobatic mating pair. The female is, I think, ab. krodeli:

These weren't the only flying objects of interest. At this site you get used to the sound of light aircraft doing circuits from the airfield at Shoreham. I then heard an aircraft of a different stamp altogether and looked up to catch the unmistakable silhouette of a Spitfire!:

All in all, a cracking day out!

Such modesty! It's a corker! ...and I know you've been trying to get that shot for quite a while now, so "Well Done!"

And congrats on the Clouded Yellow as well :D

Well worth a visit, Mike. Fine views to be had; this one eastwards:
