Braunton Burrows, North Devon

Post by Rogerdodge »

Braunton Burrows is, I guess, my local patch.
However, I don't visit as much as I should/could.
Most weekends we pile into the old campervan and head off in search of butterflies all over the country.
This weekend we were stuck at home.
I visited Braunton Burrows for the first time in 2 years.
I really ought to visit more often.
GV, Sm and Lg Whites.
Brimstone.
Meadow Brown, Speckled Wood, Gatekeeprer and WALL.
A couple of DGF, Red Ads, Sm Tort and Peacock.
Male Com Blues and BROWN ARGUS.
No skippers - (I was hoping to confirm the suspected presence of Essex)
A great day - although a bit windy for photos.
Earlier in the year I used to see Dingy and Grizzled, and probably saw the last ever Small Blue here after the Kidney Vetch desicated a few years back.
Never seen (or seen reported) Green Hairstreak - but they MUST be here somewhere!
Lovely site
If anyone plans a visit here, contact me for more info.

Well there you go, Roger!

We just don't appreciate what's in our own backyard.

I'd like to come down to Braunton Burrows. Not going to cost me £25 is it?

That just depends how long we spend in the pub afterwards!
