Went to Noar Hill with my wife Pat this morning looking for the rare secong brood Duke of Burgundy that was seen there yesterday by Pauline Richards.
Bumped into forum members Gwenhwyfar and Gruditch who had been photographing it for about an hour. (Good to meet you both by the way). Despite a long search we couldn't find it. However we had ample compensation as Mel, (a member of the group we also met there which included forum member Wayne Clinch) found this:

Well I never, sorry to have missed you all, I was up at Noar after lunch, and saw very little. A common blue some brown argus and the usual other common species.
Plenty of trampled vegetation though ! I though there must have been an invasion earlier in the day

Hi Robin & Pat nice to meet you too, felt really guilty that you never got to see the Duke of Burgundy, especially as we had been photographing him for at least an hour.

This is extraordinary.
I can find no record of a second brood DoB in my books at all.
In fact the definitive Maitland Emmet & Heath gives 26th June as the latest recorded date.
Wonderful.
Also - good photos.
Interestingly I can see no physical diference to the earlier brood - can anyone else?

Yeah it's almost tempting to dump my plans for tomorrow and head to Ivinghoe Beacon in the Chilterns to see if they have come out there too. (As well as the new Dingy Skipper Brood I heard about too.)

Nice pics. Well done for finding the BH. Jack and I were unsuccessful with that species at Oakley Wood today. Although another guy there got some nice pics. I'll have to return there again if I have time.

Glad you got to see the little guy, nice pics too.
I think we are going again on Sunday morning with Rogerdodge, so will keep a look out for the hairstreak too.

I saw my very first Brown Hairstreak today at the triangle, a beautiful fresh female.
A good close view at chest height, but I wasn't quick enough to get a shot
