I decided to change mine. This image combines no less than 4 of my hobbies! Gliding, biking, photography and of course butterflying.

Image

On the 10th I took the inset picture of a Brown Hairstreak at Hell Coppice near Oakley Wood, Bucks. Canon Powershot A80 (Handheld, no flash, automatic metering and shutter speed (-1/3 programmed in), ISO 50, 3x zoom plus +4 closeup filter - picture cropped and resized, plus light sharpening to 600x600 for my website). I had ridden to site by motorbike and spotted the BH while riding through slowly. I stopped the bike a few meters west of it and took pics with full gear including helmet on.

On the 11th I took the main picture (from the South - North is up) with the same camera (same settings, minus the closeup filter, no zoom, cropped but not resized, light sharpening) from 3000+ feet above site in a DG300 glider while passing during a cross country flight from Lasham Airfield in Hampshire. I took this, added the inset and annotation so you can see where I saw the BH and what it looked like. :)

My original entry was a pair of courting Silver Spotted Skippers at Bald Hill, Aston Rowan. This can still be seen by clicking on http://piccies.flybywire.org.uk/Butterf ... ppers3.jpg.

Hi Mike,

Thats a really nice good shot you've uploaded. I love the pose and the lighting through the wings. Its my favourite so far and will get my vote unless I see better! :)

Goodness me, there's already been some fantastic entries this month! I wish we got DoB in Suffolk but I was happy to find this beauty close to home.
