Whilst driving in slow moving traffic the toher morning (on the way to work) I spotted some Greater Knapweed growing at the side of the road. Among the usual blooms were some which were *white*. Anybody ever seen this before?

Hi Danny,
I sometimes notice white forms of flowers too - including Greater Knapweed on Springhead Hill a few days ago. Growing too were white forms of Self-heal and Pyramidal Orchid. I think it possibly has something to do with areas that are low in nutrients, although don't quote me on that.

Would this be the same as the rarer white foxglove? Cuae you mostly get pink ones, but I have seen quite a few white ones latley.

Yes it can happen in most species, although bear in mind that these white foxgloves are also cultivated.

There was a white pyramid orchid at Collard Hill during the recent Large Blue emergence. I have no idea if it was anything to do with nutrient availability but it was right next to a normal pink one.
