Went to Denbies Hillside, Dorking (page 65 - David Newland). My battery ran out after about 30 shots..."no problem" I thought "I'll put the other one in" That one was flatter that a pancake after a steam rollerr had flattened it! Target was Chalkhill Blue and there where a few about, all VERY fresh.

They certainly do, do do
here's a group I saw at Old Winchester Hill last year:

This could give rise to a new competition- "how many butterflies can you get on one piece of ............"

I have been going to Denbies off and on for the last month or so waiting for the butterflies to emerge. Last week there was nothing but today was my lucky day.

My list:

Common Blue
Holly Blue
Brown Argus
Small Copper (ab. caeruleopunctata  )
Dingy Skipper
Grizzled Skipper
Small Heath
Green Hairstreak
Brimstone
Small White
Large White
Orange Tip
Speckled Wood

and I haven't included the day flying moths.

It's FAB and just going to get better over the next couple of weeks

There are more Dingy Skippers down there than you can imagine...I must have seen at least 100! Lots of Small Heath too, I'd estimate 30-40.

Dingy Skipper
Small Heath
Common Blue
Adonis Blue
Green Hairstreak
Brimstone
Brown Argus
Holly Blue
Speckled Wood
Grizzled Skipper (jumps for joy...my first in the UK  )

Anyway, a few photos...

Cracking pics, Martin. It is an addictive place, isn't it? :D Give it a week or so and it should be even better! I didn't get to go today though, that nasty habit called work got the better of me. :(
