Hi Chris, I live in Roundhay but had no idea I could see this species on my doorstep, (which would be a new one for me) Can you tell me if there is a particular bit of the park I should look in?

I found them quite by chance, but the population is fairly well known. Park on parkside road (accessible from the ring-road) outside the stables. Go through the kissing gate and past the picnic area, folllowing the main path. A meadow will come into view on your left. There is a group of three or four young elm trees in the corner of this field, where it meets the main path. Underneath the elms it's very boggy, so you'll know when you've found them.

The butterflies can be seen either flitting in the tops of the elms, or if you're lucky, nectaring on the brambles that form the end of the hedge that runs perpendicular to the path.
