I see from the Bird observatory sightings that there have been quite a lot of Large Tortoiseshell sightings on Portland in the last few days does anyone have any further details? Particularly a sighting of 4 somewhere on Portland

Thanks

I was told of a sighting at Brownsea Island. But only a mile away their was a wedding with a butterfly release the day before. Hmmm!

I have heard of these butterfly releases before.
Do they really include LTs?
Does anyone know what species are involved?
It all seems a bit bizarre to me - but probably appeals to the chav/celeb fascinated types around these days.

Another probable seen in flight yesterday per the Portland Bird Observatory site.

Other recent Large Tortoiseshell sightings that I've heard of include 3 in Hants, one at Beachy Head and one near Sidmouth. Is this the tip of the iceberg I wonder compared to how many are being seen but not widely reported ?
