A visit with other "ukbutterflies" contributors John Booth & Wayne Clinch on Sat 16th June to Finemere Wood & Whitecross Green Wood produced good numbers of Black Hairstreak - 30+ sightings, 2 Wood White with good numbers of Marbled Whites, Green-Veined Whites, and Large & Small Skippers. Considering the changeable weather conditions we had an excellent if sometimes damp day!!

I would love to see Black Hairstreak, are you permitted to tell me where you saw them in the wood. I would travel up from Kent and have never visited there before, any help appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Marc

The Hairstreaks were on the area on the left before you go into the main entrance at Finemere Wood in an area where there is a circular walk around some blackthorn. The entrance and the path were very overgrown and wet last weekend. They were easier to find at Whitecross Green Wood - park in the area by the horse paddocks and walk down the main ride then turn left and look at the blackthorn opposite the pond. The Wood Whites were also in this area althoug they might be "over" now.

Best of luck.

Geoff
