Painted Ladies - Big Influx?

Hi, has there been a large arrival in the last few days? I ask because I have just returned from Lewis (Outer Hebrides), not an area known for butterflies and about the last place you would expect Painted Ladies to reach, and saw tons of them. Along the dune systems at Barvas (NW of the island) I estimated one every 50 yards, and saw many more in all habitats outside moorland areas. They reached right up to the Butt of Lewis (North end, next land Faroes Islands or Iceland).

Also present, abundant GV Whites, and that was it! Very few species, but huge numbers.

Cheers All,
John

I can only tell you the latest from my area, being Berwickshire South East Scotland... Painted Ladys began arriving here first few days in June, compared to last years, numbers were about the same ,maybe slightly down.
More importantly ,the condition of the majority were a little weatherbeaten, last year they arrived escorted by vast numbers of Silver Y moths, no such huge influx as yet so far.....Its all in the weather Walshey..

I was in Shetland for the first 7 days of June, and saw 2 Red Admiral, two 'Largeish' Whites (Not identified) but over a dozen Painted Ladies.
Quite an influx for up there I guess.

I haven't seen a single painted lady in the Bristol/Wilts/Somerset region this year. Red admirals have been popping up fairly regularly.
