Does anyone know what the “fly” on the Meadow Brown is and is it a benign passenger or has it other intentions?

Looks like a male, non biting midge and as such will only sip nectar, if it does even have functioning mouthparts at all. The Meadow Brown was just a handy 'leaf' to bask on.
