Scotch Argus - Favourite Photo of 2023

Week 14

It’s cold out there :( so stay in and select your Favourite Butterfly Photos of 2023! :D

Please could I ask that everyone waits until a topic has been opened by me for a particular species before posting photos as then it will be easier to keep track of things? Of course our overseas members are very welcome to fill in the obvious gaps relating to rare UK migrants. As in previous years details of locations, dates, times and circumstances would be welcome as would any accompanying stories and anecdotes or other observations of behaviour and interesting other points.

Have a goodun

Visited a Grantown on spey site on 17th August 2023 and found alot of scotch argus on the wing. They appear early on this site so most of them were not in pristine condition.

These were the best.

Must be wonderful having this species around in numbers, Bertl.

Always been a mystery how their colonies are so small and isolated south of the border.

Yes David they were in great numbers when I visited. The site at Grantown which was recommended to me by Jack Harrison a few years back is one which I visit a few times during each season.

It has a fantastic abundance of NBA, SPBF, DGF, Small Heath and Scotch Argus during their flight times.

Ringlet, Meadow Brown and Common Blue are also seen but in smaller numbers.

Long may it continue.

Bert.

I might indeed have passed on the Grantown site, but I was pointed there a few years earlier by Katrina Watson.
