Grayling perhaps

But which? This little chap was savaging my wife's shoe in the French Pyrenees this September at an altitude of just over 2000m.
I think I'm in the right area of the Collins guide to say that it's a grayling but after that I need your help please.
Best wishes,
David

Almost certainly a rock grayling, Hipparchia hermione (formerly, and likely to be again, alcyone).

It's difficult to be 100% with hermione and fagi, but this looks very good for the former.
