unusual large fungus .

Anyone out there "do" fungus ? On a fairly warm (13 c) slightly windy visit to my local wood this morning ,i found 4 of these
large fungus ,they were football sized ,and from a distance looked like a fungus species well past their sell by date ,but on close inspection they were actually pretty fresh .............any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks for that Bugboy , Yes it does look similar ,but as you say ,if you search the net with that latin name ,tree dwelling bracket fungi appear (along with DIY wall brackets ! ) and they don,t look particularly like my specimens ..............Thanks though ,I appreciate your interest.

I would suggest..Black Tooth .. Phellodon niger.

Yes Maurice ! that one does look a good match ,must say it was a striking looking fungus and apparently quite scarce .........i,ve certainly never seen them before ,thankyou for your help ! and thanks again also Paul.
