Chequered Skipper at Fineshade Wood

Hi all,

For those thinking of looking for Chequered Skipper at the reintroduction site at Fineshade Wood - I've been asked to request that you keep to the public access paths (the hard, surfaced, waymarked trails, which are shown on the signage at the end of the rides).

The central grassy rides are not accessible for a variety of reasons (minimising disturbance, leasing by Forestry England with different access rules etc.). This shouldn't spoil your enjoyment since there is plenty of opportunity to find the butterfly from the permissible paths.

Further information and guidance can be found here: https://butterfly-conservation.org/our- ... ham-forest

Cheers,

- Pete

To follow that post , there is a ranger guided walk at 11am every morning through the flight season. I joined it last Thursday and saw several Chequered Skippers. As Pete states , absolutely no need to stray from the paths.

I've added a note - in my post - there is no need to go beyond the public access area.

Thanks for the link Mike. I had not seen that. It’s a beautiful woodland and worth a visit in its own right

I'm almost disappointed that I'll be abroad from tomorrow...would definitely have dropped in otherwise.
