Adonis Blue ab.
Adonis Blue Ab. Cotswolds June 2013. Confirmation please if possible. Thanks
Re: Adonis Blue ab.
Hi again Stevie.
Adonis Blue males quite often display these marginal black dots, and most populations seem to regularly produce them alongside males lacking the spots completely. The strength and size of the spots does vary quite a bit, and your example certainly looks to be pretty extreme on the scale. Most look more like this one. There is an aberration listed which looks a likely match: ab. puncta, defined as "male with a row of well-defined little black spots in the margins of the hindwings upperside".

The link above takes you to the relevant page on UKB where this species' abs are listed.
Cheers,
Dave

Re: Adonis Blue ab.
Hi,
Many thanks for the explanation. Very informative. That's my last ab I needed to be identified. Hopefully I'll get to encounter more next year.
