Visited my local woodland (Orlestone forest ,Kent ) ,hoping for a few latish Speckled Woods ,but very little about ! i found 2 Peacock ,4 Brimstone ,2 Small Coppers a single Small Heath ,and when i was almost back to the car ,i noticed a small brownish butterfly jinking low down along the Sallows ,and immediately thought that it was another (or possibly the same ) Small Heath ,from earlier ,annoyingly it flew up into the low tree line ,and i noticed it spread its wings out ...........................funny Small Heath i thought ! and managed to get into a better position for a look ,and was amazed to see a very small male Gatekeeper ,it was really a bit too far away for my cameras capabilities ,and these are the best shots i managed ,but undoubtably the latest Gatekeeper that i,ve seen .

Cripes that is late, he must be old enough to be getting his booster jab soon!

Presumably now qualifies for his OAP, age 66 (days if not years ).

That's indecently late for a Hedge Brown, Allan. I got excited when I saw one 5 weeks ago on my own patch. I wouldn't believe it to be possible to see one much later than that. Freakish!
