Blue variant

Post by Mitch »

Seen at Giant Hill, Cerne Abbas, Dorset 17th September 21.
Both Adonis and Common Blues were flying. This Female was noted for the lack of markings underneath its wings. Slightly worn appearance at edges, but doesn’t seem to have black chequers of Adonis Blue. Then again the coloured spots on rear wing fade to white and with a dusting of blue scales. Nothing to do with the pesky mite, though.
Any thoughts on ID and name for this variant?

That looks like a worn female Adonis (the chequering disappears when the wing fringes wear off). I think the ab. is krodeli .

Cheers.
