Wasp/bee

Does anybody know what the chap in the picture is there's about three I've seen this morning and they are bigger than most of the bees

Volucella zonaria (a hornet mimic hoverfly). Their larvae are sometimes found in wasps nests. Seems to be a lot around at the moment.

There are more than a few and boy some of them are big
