Hi

Was out yesterday and amongst the Dukes Isaw what I think might have been a Grizzled skipper (or two). They was fast flying, had thin anntena and were active even though it wasnn't hot or sunny.

However, I can't decide if it definitely was or not becuase it didn't look exactly like int he books. So, what I want to know is this. Is there a day time flying moth that I could have confused it with?

Thanks

Edward

Latticed heath is often mistaken for grizzled skipper. See http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=66.

I have the same trouble at a site near Radstock. The whatever-it-is flutters up from beneath my feet, flies low and fast for a short distance, then does a dance in mid-air to confuse me before disappearing, presumably onto the ground. Possibly Grizzled Skipper, but could equally be a day-flying moth (Mother Shipton moth occurs on the site). The beast has been taunting me for the last two years and I have still yet to identify it.

Um

I see what ou mean.

I stil tend to think it was a skipper - somehow not as pronouced as the moth. Will have to take a good look when I go back next week.
