Happy New Year everyone :D

Just to let you all know that the long-overdue review of the images (and videos) in the Species Albums will commence shortly. These albums are the repository of all images contributed by members and serve to feed the individual Species Pages eg. https://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/species ... cardamines, as well as the Species Identification Section https://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/species ... &stage=all and Stock Photo Library https://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/stock_album.php

The review will involve pruning out the lower-quality images, duplicates, and some which have been superseded by improved (or better labelled) shots. The aim is not only to provide the most up-to-date and extensive image library of butterflies in Britain and Ireland anywhere on the web, but ultimately also to serve as a valuable scientific resource.

Fresh images and videos can only be added to the albums by moderators who will select them by monitoring the various personal diaries, sightings reports, and photo competitions.

My continued thanks go to everyone who has contributed images to the Species Albums in the past. If anybody has any comments or questions about the review, then please post them here or send me a PM.

Vince

A belated 'thanks' for all the hard work you (and David, Wurzel and Kevin) do behind the scenes to keep UKB ticking along!

Cheers,

Thanks David and Pete,

Just to let everyone know that the latest review of the Species Albums has now been completed.
Only 107 images were deleted, leaving 12,689 images and videos still in the albums.

My thanks go to everyone who has contributed images over the years and apologies to those who may have had some of theirs deleted in the latest clean-up. The aim is not only to continue to improve the quality of the images in these albums, but also to expand the coverage of different aspects (such as behavior) exhibited by certain species. I will continue to monitor sightings reports, personal diaries and competition entries for these, but if you think you have an image that improves upon one already in the albums, or adds to the resource, then please let me know.

The gaps that remain are becoming increasingly difficult to fill, these now being mainly in the Secondary list. There are, of course, many local sub-species that also have to be fully covered.

See here for the gaps:
