Lincs butterflies

Post by dragnil »

Seen today near Lincoln, I'm fairly sure the darker one is a Gatekeeper but I'd be grateful for confirmation (or to be chopped off at the knees!).
The other was very small and I can't find it in my books - there are so many in the Collins that a novice like me is overwhelmed very quickly so I turn to the forum that has helped me before. Thanks in advance for identifying the smaller of the two.

Hi Dragnil. You're right about the second one - it's a male gatekeeper. The first is a small copper.

Many thanks, Guy and kevoh. I'm sure I've been seeing them for decades but this was the first time I noticed them and there were so many on that patch - an attractive little creature.
