Please note the following:

We at the Berks Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust have taken the difficult decision to keep our Whitecross Green Wood SSSI nature reserves closed at the moment.

This is due to the fact that we have been unable to complete essential spring path cutting works that would enable visitors to walk around the site without causing damage by trampling to the open grassy ride network which is so important for a range on invertebrate and plant species. The reason for being unable to carry out this annual task has been due to the restrictions imposed on what activities until now we have been able to undertake with staff and volunteers due to the governments lockdown.

We are aware that this site is really popular as a site to come and photograph Black hairstreak and with the start of the flight season for this species upon us I am trying to get word out through as many channels as possible to ensure that as few people are disappointed after making a long journey to find the gate padlocked and the site shut.

The plan is very much to get the site back open to the public just as soon as we have the mowing done. Which if all goes to plan should be by the middle of July by which time many of the flowering plants will have set seed and we will have been able to get our tractor and mower onto site to cut the rides as we do every year.

All the very best
Mark
