White Letter Hairstreak sites

Post by Lee Hurrell »

Hello all,

Apologies if I have asked this before, but can anyone recommend a reliable site for WLH in Surrey or north-ish Hampshire? I haven't seen one in years and I need to put that right!

Best wishes,
Lee

Lee,

If you are prepared to cross the Thames, there's a guaranteed spot near Leigh-on-Sea station in Essex...

I know, not Surrey or Hampshire. I saw several at Box Hill last year on brambles near the old fort just down from the visitor centre, but that may have been lucky.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Lee,

According to the 'Surrey Skipper' newsletter published twice yearly there are a number of good sites - see issue 65 page 19:

There is a field trip to Tooting Common, specifically for this species, on Thursday 20 June.

Good luck

Thanks, both.

There is also a line of elms at the south of Farnham Park where they can be seen - this is probably my nearest.

Best wishes,
