Wow! What a fantastic sighting! Neil Hulme must still be pinching himself in case it is all a dream.
As I mentioned in a previous post, Queens of Spain were continuously brooded this winter in the Rhône Valley of Switzerland, something that is unheard of here as far as I know. I saw about 20 on 3rd Feb, including several worn individuals, so they must have been flying in January. The weather since then has been wonderful and they have been present in good numbers ever since, apparently having produced another brood already. Assuming the same is true in warm parts of France and elsewhere in Europe, Neil's Q o S may be a sign of things to come this year.
Clouded yellows, equally anomalously, have been on the wing every month of the year here - in fact, I have seen them every month since April 2006. So that may be another one to look out for early.

I only say 'Queens of Spain' and 'Dukes of Burgundy' because I think it makes me look clever. I'm not sure it works.
