Great pics Eccles love the Starling, some birders tend to go for the rarer birds and can miss whats under their nose.

Thanks Shaun. No it's not always sunny, but the wildlife is just around the corner, so if there's a break in the cloud I can nip out with the camera.

Fantastic photos Eccles, I'm quite sure that a Canon just couldn't match that at all. . The Hawfinches are lovely to see and that cheeky little long tail tit with his nut. Paton the hatch's down folks a big storm coming, well actually its here Shirley

Lovely photos Jerry, you must have held that camera so still to get such a good photo of the owl in flight, perfectly sharp. To-day I saw some Red shanks and some Oystercatches but I did take some photos there are still in the camera, it was freezing to-day, I went out to some flooded fields where someone said there were a lot of birds and they were right but the wind was cutting through me, I stayed half an our and that was too long, I'll go back tomorrow with thicker gloves and a pair of wellies and have another go.

If he had held the camera still, the picture would have been dreadful.
For birds in flight you need to develop the skill of panning.

I didn't know that Roger but now I know what panning is, I have learnt a lot with the thread and I expect I'll learn more from time to time.

Thanks for the comments. Just to add a bit more info. Camera was tripod mounted equipped with a 3 way head with balance springs / Lens Sigma 5-500 (weight 1.8kg) / Remote shutter release. EXIF data intact some PP was done for exposure & color etc.

That's a huge meal for a little grebe, Shaun. Did it eat it all?
I like the in-flight shot although if possible I'd have preferred a bit more space in front of the bird. But I realise that birds don't make it easy.

What is the breed of that duck Shaun, nice photos, I like the fishee. On the 24th and 25th January the RSPB are having their annual Big Garden Bird watch, forms can be downloaded from http://www.rspb.org.ukbirdwatch and then submit your results after Sunday. One hour's bird watching on either day.
