If that's the best you got Jack, you best give it up.

Please remember this is a site is dedicated to Butterflies, its not here for you to pursue your personal vendettas.

Although its nice to get some aclaim for a picture i have taken i am not really bothered, for me a picture is a reminder of the time i took it, it could be the first visit to a site, or the 10th visit when you finally get a decent pic, it could be a first like my pic of a Silver Washed Fritillary its a rubbish picture but to me its very special.
I dont think anyone should be bothered about other peoples opinions, just be happy with your own efforts. Steve

Gary
We are about 85 miles away the night before (and hoping to meet the greatest living Englishman - Sir David Attenborough) so will be at Whitecross Green Wood (that is the right place isn't it?) at about 10:00 - weather permitting.
Actually, even if it isn't that good we will probably be there.
Looking forward to it
(Mediocre) Roger

Steve,

An interesting, but rather odd attitude.
Sadly, most of us care pretty deeply about the opinions of our peers.
In many ways this is a good thing, as it spurs efforts to improve.
Frankly, I love it when people compliment my photographs.
(I know Gary - it is a pretty rare thing! )
I would be quite hurt if someone savagely criticised a picture I was proud of.
I do, however, welcome constructive criticism, but don't always use it

I do have to say that I like the crop much more now that the Small Copper is looking INTO the frame, a standard convention.

There must be some good (general) photographic websites that cover such matters as composition conventions - the thirds rule for example (conventions are of course there to be broken when appropriate - I have taken landscapes where deliberately the horizon is exactly half way up with a hedge running fore/aft down the middle - surprisingly it worked). Any suggestions of appropriate websites?

My compact is very helpful (here he goes again you say!) as I can configure it with grid lines that divide the screen into thirds.

I hope we are still on for the weekend at Whitecross Green Wood. Saturday (weather wise) is looking the better day of the two. I was there yesterday and saw two Brown Hairstreaks in less than ideal weather.

I have already located a good-looking (and recommended) nearby pub (The Nut Tree Inn at Murcott) which has an apparently pleasant outdoor eating area.

Jack I shall be there (see above) on Sunday with Gary and Lisa - I shall hold your jackets if you want a fight (with Gary, not Lisa!).

I think, however, that you will get on famously as you are both about 7 years old at heart!
I knew Peter Scott personally so there!
Funny - he never mentioned you?

Cheers

Roger

p.s. Remind me to tell you the joke about the Irishman and the Pope.

Hehe, speak for yourself! I want to win and, ideally, win by miles. Lack of talent shouldn't stand in the way when you have determination and blind ambition.

If it hadn't been for the fact that I was away on holiday I would have voted for myself and probably created multiple identities and they would have all voted for me too.

I will defend my new friend Tony Croft [who, whom ? - (someone correct my grammar) - I met yesterday] and enforce his policy of "no trampling". So no pushing your luck to get to that distant Angelica with the pristine female BH nectaring on it.

Rosy,
Are you on heat, or drugs, or both tonight? All that money wasted on Swiss Finishing Skool! :D I think it's busy tonight cos it's the pre-fight build up to the 'Rumble in the Whitecross jungle'.
