Well done Pete.

Animal at Junior = Maniola Jurtina = Meadow Brown.

Ok, you clever lot. What connects "Sidereus Nuncius" with "Euphydryas aurinia". I hope this takes more than 10 minutes!

Cheers,

Bingo. 1610 is, indeed, the connection. 1610 being the Bradley and Fletcher number for aurinia.

Over to you, Guy.

Cheers,

Nice one, Pete. I was going for all sorts of astrological links (starry messengers and prophetesses), then had a blinding stroke of genius and stuck 'aurinia 1610' into Google! :D

I think this one might be harder, but you never know...

What connects Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the small pearl-bordered fritillary? I suspect there are many vaguely plausible answers (both utterly gorgeous, for example) but there is only one RIGHT answer. :D

I suspect the simple answer of "selene" being a moon goddess, and vampires coming out during a full moon is way too simple for you, Guy :)

But let's start there :)

It's good, but Buffy and Selene have a closer connection than that.

After some googling ...

Selene is a "werewolf" slayer in "Underworld".

Buffy is a vampire slayer in ... er ... "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

Getting closer? :)

Or is it the fact that you have the hots for them both?

Cheers,

- Pete

Your classical mythology may be pretty solid, Pete, but your knowledge of the Buffyverse needs brushing up. :D As a (probably not very helpful) hint before I retire for the night, the connection I have in mind only holds from Season 5 onwards - though somewhat paradoxically, it then retroactively applies to Buffy's life before Season 5...

Sorry all, my hard drive went 'phut' so I had no way of getting on-line. I have had to buy a lap top to tide me over until I can get a new desk top.

Anyway, Roger (and Pete) were spot on with ab. cuneate.

Dave: you will be interested to know that there are 35 named aberrations of the Ringlet known to crop up in the British Isles!

Felix.

Ps: I was also out watching butterflies and saw a second brood Dingy Skipper. Looking at the weather forecast I bet he wishes he hadn't bothered...!

It seems the daily quizsters are not up on vampyric pop culture and/or Greek mythology! :D

If anyone's still trying, and wants to take the next question, the connection is to be found among the close relatives of Buffy and Selene. And the hint about Season 5 should tell you which one, even if you only go onto Wikipedia and check it up!!

Season 5 hails the appearance of Dawn, Buffy's sister, only she's not. She is the key!
Am I on the right track before I embarrass myself?

hmm...if not Dawn, could it be something to do with Harmony Kendall who first appeared in this season?

Dawn is indeed the key... Go on...

This is getting more and more obscure ... :)

So - are both "Buffy" and "selene" connected because they both have a sister, "Dawn"? (in the case of selene, actually Eos, "the dawn").

Cheers,

- Pete

Indeed - and the 24 hours were so nearly up!!

Buffy and Selene both have a sister named Dawn. Dawn Summers was magically created by monks from 'the key', in order to entrust this cosmic object to Buffy - but she was nevertheless a true blood relation, as manifested in the way Buffy was able to substitute herself for her sister at the end of Season 5, closing the portals between dimensions and dying in the process. Selene's sister was Eos, which means 'dawn' in Greek (as in Eohippus - the 'dawn horse'). Eos was the greek equivalent of Aurora.

Obscure? And 1610 wasn't obscure?

I think the question passes to Pete, for providing the missing link, even though Denise got Dawn.

Right - what connects the Bath White with needlework?
