I think we are encouraged to shop early for Christmas, Neil, only 11 months to go.

Lovely Daffs Trevor The shops went even madder this year - I went in on Christmas Eve and they were already getting space cleared for the Easter Eggs - I mean they still hadn't gotten Xmas out of the way Oh well eventually it'll all roll into one so there'll be a Christmas aisle, and an Easter aisle etc

Huge drifts of snowdrops growing wild in Wiltshire.

Monday 13th Feb.

That's a great sight to see Trevor I normally start carrying my camera when these and the Aconites come out - rthey're like my butterfly alarm clock!

Many thanks Wurzel, David & Goldie. Snowdrops are one of the first things to lift the spirits in the new year.

Still no butterflies for the camera around here yet.
Since Christmas I've had two Red Admiral sightings, one on Boxing day in Wilts,
and the other flying around nearby properties at home just after New Year.

With the cold air set to continue for a while yet, patience is required!

February is snowdrops month, and they make a glorious sight when seen in masses like that. They are starting to go over now, but have been excellent this year. Something to look forward to in late winter. Then we can look towards spring, which is now very close.

I agree, Mark, Snowdrops have been magnificent this year with little rough weather to spoil them.
Here is a shot from my garden of G Elwesii ' Comet ' which is said to have the largest flowers
of any snowdrop. These are now going over.

They do look massive Trevor This is the month when it all begins proper so fingers crossed we won't have another visit from the Beast from the East

Remember the February ' heat wave ' of 2019 ? It was so warm on 25th Feb.
that I discarded my jumper and walked around in short sleeves. A bit different to 2023!

Yes, it would seem my first bit of holiday will be a butterfly free zone. Still it's been decent 'normal' winter (as far as wildlife is concerned) so we can hope when things get going we'll be spoilt rotten!

I am trying to reassure myself that Spring is not far away.
And scenes like the one below could be enjoyed in a little over four weeks time!

Lovely clump of Galanthus Comet you have there. Also, get some Gal. S. Arnott if you can find them. The flowers are gloriously scented.

Right now those times seem painfully far away. You're right though; in 4 weeks time Orange Tips will surely be about...unless this awful weather lasts all the way through the month of March (which doesn't seem impossible at the moment).
