I'm really enjoying this topic, but you guys risk burning-out before the January photoshop/digital manipulation photo competition. By then, you would have either succumbed to the bane of all great artists (madness and gout), or be so devoid of ideas that you will be reduced to standing naked for hours in front of a blank easel desperately seeking inspiration.

I, on the other hand, am biding my time. I have been secretly working on my masterpiece - a sculpture entitled "Vanessid de Milo". It's a bit of a departure for me, but it's coming along brilliantly. I've only just started and some bits have dropped off it already!

Madness and gout already torment me in my lonely garret, but i've had a sneak preview of Vincent's 'Vanessid de Milo'. I intercepted all of his letters to his brother Theo. A Vanessid with only half wings, poor creature. I only hope that Gary van Go Go doesn't find someone drowned, he'll run for barley straw instead of his waders. Please send more money.

i was doing some grouting in the salle de bains yestereve when i noticed what seemed to be a picture hidden beneath the tiles...
i uncovered this gorgeous portrait of a lady having a good hair day:

ive been busy meanwhile with a new project.
Antony got in touch with me after he says he was browsing on uk butterflies and came across our arts thread "recognising tormented genius" he says, he had to get in touch and ask if id'e be interested in brain storming with him for ideas for his latest project "Angel of the south"
he says that this time he wants to do a proper job, not like the other one he did up north were they ran out of money and ended up using parts from a scrapped glider to finnish the wings off.
any how ive come up with a mock up and i wanted to run it by you guys first before i show it to antony what do you think?

Gary van go ga ga, you have a hidden talent there mate. I am in awe of all you clever people who can do such things. I am totally rubbish when it comes to anything clever like that, so I will take a back seat and watch you all "create"

Are those Gatekeepers with wigs? Is nothing sacred? - I think we need to "keep it real". We all know that the only way to get credibility these days is to have your work accepted by the Royal Academy, however they are notoriously fickle. I recently tried to impress them with my painting skills. I made a LOVELY job of their skirting boards (Magnolia - 2 coats). However they preferred the work of some Italian bloke (Michael something?) who does ceilings. In the end I grudgingly had to admit that his artexing and 100mm coving did look quite professional.

Progress on my sculpture is not going well. What started as a large shapeless block of marble is now a small shapeless block of marble.

Sorry to hear that your Venus sculpture is not ready yet. We are looking forward to seeing her.
I used to know a poem about Venus... it had a nautical theme ...can anyone remind me of the words ?
