Plenty of Small Blues at Sundon Chalk Workings today.

Also Marbled Whites & some fast flying Fritillaries... either Dark Green or Silver Washed...

Painted Lady at Wykeham raptor watchpoint North Yorkshire on Thursday. A very faded individual. Also Red Admiral at Bempton Cliffs.

Just a handful of Lulworths at Durlston today in breezy conditions (plus a solitary, very fresh Small Skipper). Give it 3 or 4 weeks and they should be at their peak here.

We saw a few Lulworths when we went to Dorset, they're looking happy! Down in Durdle Door.

Image here(still from a video) is a Large Blue we saw today at Rodborough Common. I'm happy to see them out, with about 3-5 in total!

A couple of days at Strumpshaw showed the Swallowtails to be in fine fettle, and the next generation underway as well.

Small Pearl-bordered Fritillaries in flight at Priddy Mineries (Somerset) today, with rather larger numbers of Small Heath and Burnet Companion in attendance. One of the fritillaries actually stopped for a while.

Yesterday was spent at 2 locations in Kent - Fackenden then on to Lullingstone, 15 species seen, shame about the wind! but a good 7 hours spent. Good numbers of both Marbled White an Dark Green Frits on the wing, an a few Small/Large Skippers. 2 female Marbled White amongst all the males, but no female DGF's as yet. Wind burn, a few bites, an Hayfever kicking off, but its all worth it! Some highlight pics, no images are cropped. Cheers Paul.

Excellent day at collard hill yesterday. 15 large blue. Including egg laying. Large, small and grizzled skipper. Small Tort. Red admiral. Small Heath. Common blue (including a blue female form) and lots of marbled white and meadow brown. Hairy dragonfly and scarce chaser as well as damsels. Silver y. Yellow shell, latticed Heath and straw dot moths.

I saw my first two silver-washed fritillaries and my first large skipper today on the Isle of Wight. Generally-speaking there have been very few butterflies about. Only one was seen by me at each of RBG Kew abd RHS Wisley which I visited last week and where there are plenty of flowers. How are others finding it?

I saw this damaged small tortoiseshell today. Is it an aberration as the stripes on the forewing are white instead of fawn?

I don't think I've seen any mention of Ringlets yet, so I'll post this mediocre photo taken in South Cambs on Thursday afternoon (June 9th).

Weather hasn't been great up here in Aberdeen recently, overcast and showers. Still warm at 17 degrees so took a wander to a meadow on my local patch in Bridge of Don this afternoon and spotted my first meadow brown butterflies of the season. Around 8 to 10 on the wing.

I've had a very busy but very enjoyable week just past catching up with a few regional specialties. Reports will appear at some point but may be delayed if my laptop issues continue.

I also added Small and Essex Skippers, Marbled White and White Admiral to the years tally

Dave, your Swallowtail is gorgeous! Well done.

I was there on the 9th & tried so hard to get a decent photo. It was sunny but breezy and the 4 Swallowtails I saw were never still. The first I saw was in a field with crops and a variety of wild flowers (I had permission to be there from someone who worked on the farm.) I saw it fly over the flowers then it disappeared. The next two were in the doctor's garden nectaring on Sweet William. One looked in good condition but landed briefly then flew off again. The other was damaged, it stayed a while but got blown about in the breeze. The last one was on Dames Violet by reception but I only got a couple of photos and it was gone. Sadly my photo has not done it justice and there is a leaf in the way!

A trip to Priddy Mineries.
A bright morning decide me to make my annual trip to Priddy for the Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary (Boloria selene)
Priddy as always was several degrees colder than my home on the lowlands so hope took a plunge, but it proved to be a help , the pearlies had no desire to do anything other than nectar,so here are a few pictures along with a few other friends seen along the track.
