Very nice, Trevor - an ab. from Abbots. Green Hairstreaks and Grizzlies make up an enviable triumvirate.

Hi Trevor,

Looks like you are mopping up on the species I will be missing this year    :D

That female Pearl is a striking individual with lovely extra dark markings around the fringes of all wings  :D

Cheers,

Neil.

Many thanks everyone, sharing our hard won images helps to remind us of better times.

Today was slower going, with more cloud than Sun.
This did mean that the few Pearls that were found were quite easy targets for the camera.
The cloud also helped to calm down the Dingy Skippers, and a very fine Green Veined White.
A surprise came in the form of a Red Admiral nectaring on Bluebells, a particularly feisty
specimen that would not keep still, and eventually flew off at high speed.
Escapees today were a very fresh Small Copper, and a Grizzled Skipper, but a fairly
docile Green Hairstreak made up for those!.

Keep well exercised, and healthy!.
Trevor.

Very jealous of your local species there Trevor but after a little walk on my local patch today, perhaps not quite as much as I was yesterday  That final GVW is a bit special though

Continuing multiple  for the PBF images, Trevor, especially that beautifull-marked female from the earlier post. And the Dingy and Hairstreaks as well of course... :) Keep going back - there's more good weather on the way... :)

Cheers,

Dave

Oh, I just love that last image of the Green Veined White, Trevor. Maybe during these times of confinement I'm more frustrated than usual regarding my inability to locate one posing so well like that.

Nice to see the Pearls again. I'm eagerly anticipating the government announcement this coming Thursday regarding any concessions on travel. If there are none then I will miss out on this species in 2020, as they will be gone by the late May Bank Holiday. :(

Glorious set of PBF images there, Trevor. Those early starts have paid dividends!

Many thanks everyone for the comments and appreciation.

That Green veined White was easy, not only was it very fresh, but it was very cool/cold
where I found it, and so was the Butterfly.
As for PBF, very early morning is best, or just before roosting time, given ideal weather.

Another early start today, will it bear fruit?

Enjoy the next couple of days, you won't enjoy the Arctic blast on Sun/Mon.
Trevor.

Another great set of photos Trevor but my favourite is the Dingy Skipper on the wood. There is something just 'right' about the complimentary colours in that shot  :D

Cheers,

Neil.

I'm with Neil on this one Trevor (well, you only have to look at his moth compositions and backgrounds to see that he knows what he's talking about :) ). Anyway, this is about you and that is a great Dingy shot. They were a source of great frustration to me today - well, actually, it wasn't the butterflies, it was the people!

Many thanks Neil & Pauline. I was pleased with that Dingy for different reasons,
it was one of only a few seen this year, and the only one to pose nicely so far.

Fortunately I woke up just after 5 this morning, so there was plenty of time
before I needed to set off for Abbots wood. On arrival some Pearls were already
flying, but in areas that had been in shade a few were found warming up on the
ground and on foliage. The most remarkable find was a pair of Pearls basking together.
Finding fresh PBF is now becoming more difficult, but most are in good condition.

I also had an appointment with the Green one, these are found in a secluded corner
of the main PBF site. I found a definite three, but by now it was warming up and
GH were lively and I missed far more shots than I obtained.
It was now after 10.00 and time to leave, but not before another, rather worn
Grizzled Skipper appeared from nowhere!.

Stay well all,
Trevor.

Well worth getting up for, Trevor! :) It pays to be out there as soon as you can, and I seem to have started to wake up early too, especially with all these sunny mornings. It's a bonus - and all that sunlight must be good for you and your vitamin D levels.

Cheers,

Dave
