Hello Trevor, what a great haul you have had of late and some great shots to show it. My favorite of you last batch is definately the female Adonis. I have never seen one personally but I love all the subtle colours which remind me very much of an 'oily' marble :D

Many thanks Dave, Old Wolf & Wurzel.

Among the numerous Adonis Blues, it was not difficult to find some fresh ones.
I only explored a small area of the vast Grassland yesterday, but judging by what I saw,
the site could give Mill Hill a run for it's money as far as Adonis Blues are concerned.

When I arrived at my Daughters yesterday, I went straight up to the Church grounds
and was surprised to find some male Wall Browns still in good condition.
The weather is a write off today ( Sunday ), but when it improves I shall pop up there again.

Fabulous Adonis Blues again, Trevor, particularly the female who is gleaming.

Great to see the Wall Browns still about too. I wonder if they'll pack in an additional brood this year?

A largely cloudy, blustery day with few sunny breaks was ideal for obtaining
under side shots of Wall Browns, resting on the headstones of graves.
The few sunny spells were enough to encourage a few Walls to search for nectar.
Like Saturday only males were found this afternoon.
A surprise find was a Red Admiral ab. bialbata.

This bright cloudy weather certainly makes those Walls more manageable, Trevor - a great set of shots from the graveyard. :)

This morning I arranged to meet Wurzel at the Bell Inn, Great Cheverell, in order
to visit St.Peters Church to look for Wall Browns in the grounds of the Church.
Unfortunately grey skies made this mission impossible. None were seen.

As time was limited we headed over to Tilshead. Here the Adonis Blues did not disappoint,
there were not as many showing compared to Saturday, but there were more than enough
to keep our cameras busy. Fresh males and females were still to be found along with some
faded at worn specimens. Brown Argus numbers came a close second to the Adonis but
were mostly faded.

In all we had a great, if short session at Tilshead and I think Wurzel went away quietly
impressed with what the site had to offer.

Shame about the Walls, Trevor, but at least the Adonis are not so choosy about the weather. That first female is amazingly fresh with that iridescent sheen! Stunning. :)

Thanks Dave, there were many fresh females,
it was sometimes difficult to know where to point the camera next.

A bonus Butterfly, a fresh Green Veined White, was found nectaring in the pub garden. this afternoon.

Hi Trevor, thanks for stopping by to see my diary. You will want to see some of the pictures I'll be adding in the next few days.

I have kept up with your diary through the summer and shared with gritted teeth your moments with hairstreaks and especially the Browns   I have seen all of them this year as well, but I think my brown was a touch less pristine than yours... I think 3 wings on my hairstreak (to the tune of 3 wheels on my wagon) is appropriate, but the white-letters made up for it (not yet posted).

I shall not dwell on the other treats (Adonis, Walls and Emperors) but it is good to see you have had a few good trips out too. :D

Shame I'd need to navigate the M25 to join you but it may be next year I make a safari. I do hope next year is as good for weather and butterflies.

best wishes

My pleasure Wurzel. You now have a new site to add to your ' stop off ' itinerary.
Do visit next Spring.

Love those Wall undersides, Trevor. Surely one of the most attractive of all UK species.

The Adonis images are none too shabby either, and your female Green Veined White is as clearly marked as I would expect at this time of year.

Still a bit of life left in the season. I hope you make the most of it.

Many thanks all !. I've had some good sessions lately. Glad you've enjoyed the fruits.

Today I decided to visit Burgess Hill for a Brown Hairstreak hunt and a change of scene.
My attempt to track down BH was severely hampered by the number of fresh, glowing,
Small Coppers vying for my attention. Nearly every Ragwort had it's own nectaring SC.
It was interesting to note that where there was a choice between Fleabane and Ragwort,
Ragwort was usually chosen.
Among all the Small Coppers was my finest ever ' Blue Badge ' specimen, what a beauty !.

As for Brown Hairstreaks, I saw two females, one high in an Ash ( spot the Hairstreak )
and a second one which landed very close to where I was standing.

Nice shots of some lovely looking Small Coppers, Trevor, that 'Blue Badge' individual was a great find. I wonder why they mainly choose the Ragwort?
It's great playing spot the Hairstreak :)
