Hi Emma,

The size of an image cannot be changed within the Edit function. In this case, just re-submit the new images and I will then remove the old ones.

Congrats to John, Neil and Nigel! And thanks to everyone who entered.

Judging gets tougher every year but this was, undoubtedly, the toughest by far. There are so many excellent images that didn't make the top 3 and, as has become the norm, there were no unanimous winners between Gary, Lisa and I.

Cheers,

- Pete

Well done to the winners!
For the rest of us " also rans" perhaps the judges could award some "highly commended" or similar?

Can do - we went around the houses a few times to come up with the winners, so here's what was left on the cutting room floor:

Highly Commended - voted on by more than 1 judge but not good enough to make the top 3
Dark Green Fritillary - Ben Kiteley (Butterflies in the UK)
Chalkhill Blue waking up - Badgerbob (Butterflies in the UK)
Purple Emperor larva - petesmith (Immature Stages)
Orange Tip pair - Neil Hulme (Behaviour)
Dusky large Blue - False Apollo (Behaviour)

Commended - voted on, but only by 1 judge
Early Morning Small Copper - Andy Brown (Butterflies in the UK)
Green Hairstreak - Buchan Boy (Butterflies in the UK)
Orange-tips - Adrian Kennerley (Butterflies in the UK)
Marbled White - Nigel Kiteley (Butterflies in the UK)
Female Mazarine Blue - Reverdin (Butterflies from Overseas)
White Tiger - Tony Moore (Butterflies from Overseas)
Weaver's Fritillary - BillS (Butterflies from Overseas)
False ilex Hairstreak - JohnB (Butterflies from Overseas)
Apollo - French Alps 05.07.14 - Nigel Kiteley (Butterflies from Overseas)
Club Silverline - Tony Moore (Butterflies from Overseas)
Yellow-banded Skipper - Nick Freeman (Butterflies from Overseas)
Male Adonis Blue Resting - Glostopcat (Butterflies in the UK)
Small Pearl-bordered Fritillaries - The Annoying Czech (Behaviour)

Cheers,

- Pete

Hi Pete,

My daughter took the Orange Tip photograph voted 3rd place in the under 16 category, however it has my name against it. I guess I mistakenly posted it under my log in instead of hers. Please could this amended to say Emma Ling (I don't want the credit for her lovely photo).

Kind Regards
Kevin Ling

"Thanks" to all the judges for giving up their time to adjudicate again, and congratulations to the winners and all who entered. I was delighted to get on the podium, particularly as I think the standard of entries continues to climb. There are numerous images in there which would have been victorious only a few years back.

Particular favourites of mine were Bob Eade's (badgerbob's) Chalk Hill Blue, Nigel Kiteley's European Swallowtail and William Langdon's duelling Speckled Woods. William's images always impress me. They are so much more than just photographs of butterflies; they capture the entire essence of summer.

Thanks Neil, that's a huge compliment and much appreciated, it's not a patch on that pair of Dukes  , the same amount I saw in the whole of 2014

Congrats to all the winners and everyone who entered, superb :)

BWs,

William

Wow! I'm surprised to be at the top of that lot. When I saw what others were uploading I thought I'd be somewhere in the midfield so I am ecstatic to have been voted on top! Something to brighten the spirits during the cold grey months! :)

The competition gets better and better every year with everyone pushing themselves further to do better the next year. This years images were mighty impressive!

Neil and Nigel had some stunning images I thought were tough to beat. I have a bit of a thing about Apollo's and Nigel's is a real stunner! Buchan Boy's Brimstones also stood out. Super sharp and great depth of field. A stunning action shot I'd put at the top of my personal list of favourites.

Also Nick Freeman's Yellow Banded Skipper. What a stunning butterfly and I'd love to see one of those one day!

Surprised that Mick Rock's Wood Whites in the 'Behaviour' section didn't even get a mention. I thought it would win easily. Very subjective, competitions...

Congratulations to the winners, some stunning images as usual my favourite was Nigel's Swallowtail, it's so hard to get it all in focus like that. But I also really liked the Green-Underside Blue by the Annoying Czech too.

And thanks to the Pete, Lisa and Gary for putting in the time to judge the entries, it's most appreciated!

Cheers

Bill
