Hi
This would be my first visit here, thinking of going tomorrow to look for the Purple Emperor. I would be coming from Boston, any advice or updates would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Rick

Hello Rick, havent been to Fermyn for a week, but still plenty of activity at Salcey, so it should still be rewarding at Fermyn. From the A 6116 just north of the country park take the Harley way towards Lyveden new bield, and just past the gliding club entrance there is a pull in on the right.Park and follow this track all the way through Fermyn woods and into Lady & Souther woods looking at the canopy for aerial activity, and on the track for grounded males, although this is less common later in the season, also watch the sallows for females, good luck if you go,
Best wishes, David

Thanks Dave
great advice and I've found the exact layby you mention on Google Earth. I would be there most of the day so hopefully might see something else. Do you just stick to the rides and this takes you into Lady & Souther woods.

Salcey looks good but just cant manage the 85 mile drive after 3 days walking around London.

thanks
rick

Yes, just follow the main track through Fermyn, it will lead through an open area between fermyn and Lady wood, then just follow any of the main tracks, it's all good and I'm sure you'll see a few other butterflyers for advice, the weather looks fine so you should have a good chance,
Regards, David

Had a good day today, seeing my first Emperor and managing a few photos. Was thinking I might have missed out but one dropped in front of me whilst I was walking back.
Lovely place and met few nice people.
Thanks for the advice Dave
