Are you planning on trying two sites in one day. If so just to warn you it took me 3 hours to trvel from Newhaven area to Kingsdown Leas in Kent.

anyone able to give a grid ref for the group at Newhaven/seaford -0 a back up top the Shoreham cemetn works would be good for tomorrow - if anyone can assist

Just out of interest, what kind of temperatures will be sufficient to kill these butterflies off?
Although it is due to become colder from Thursday, daytime maxima will continue to be in the low teens whilst it isn't forecast to go lower than 7c at night.

Perhaps I will just stick to one county! Kingsdown and Reculver could work.

Sounds like the best plan. I'd be interested in finding out a bit more about the site along the railway bank near Reculver and Minnis Bay as I'd consider one more trip to try for some more video of a female with her wings open.

Another Long-tailed Blue in amongst The Downs at the back of Seaford. Well away from other known sites and quite a surprise!!!!

Huge thanks to everyone who has posted information about this species at this and other sites.
The day is still fine so if you are reading this now there is still time to go and try your luck if you are in the area.
I met some lovely people this morning and it was a great experience, even if seeing the LTB was far too fleeting. Also seen were some pristine red admirals, a small white and a brown hairstreak.
It was nice to meet up with Neil Hulme again and Mia. She's a real beauty and turning into a really delightful little girl.
Glad you got to see the LTB's in the end Susie.
That also goes for everyone else sighting them in Sussex too.
Interesting that these LTB's are seen/photographed nectaring on Ivy as well.

I couldn't resist another go at finding the Long-tailed Blues in Southwick, especially as they are only 20 mins drive away. On my third visit this week, I was rewarded with some much better views than I had on Thursday (I failed to see any on Wednesday despite 4 being seen earlier on in the day). I suspect with the weather forecast to change this may well be my last Long-tailed Blue of the year and for the foreseeable future

Also seen, at least 4 Clouded Yellow (some in superb condition), a seemingly freshly emerged Comma, a Small Copper, and a Red Admiral.
What a year of Butterflies it's been!

2013 LTB UK Summary
An excellent, fully illustrated, twelve page summary of the never-to-be-forgotten Long-tailed Blue events of 2013 appears in the latest edition of Atropos magazine (summer 14, number 52). The initial influx and subsequent breeding on British soil is expertly summarised by Richard Fox of BC, with photographic input from at least 4 UKB contributors. Anyone who was lucky enough to be part of this historical invasion should try to get hold of a copy.
