I only managed to take photos of a Small Copper once last season - back in May on a trip to Essex.
This lovely ab. caeruleopunctata posed very kindly with it's wings open almost horizontally (they usually keep them at an annoyingly acute angle for photographers don't they :wink: ).
It was sunbathing on a small Oak sapling and didn't seem to notice me frantically trying to get parallel to it with my tripod.
My best Small Copper photo to date I think.
