Hi Suzie
What is the liklihood of cancellation and what time do you reckon you'll finish that day? The only reason I ask is that if I book train tickets early, I can get a good deal.
Cheers
Paul

Well if everyone is in agreement as to the date, which is the last saturday in November, then I imagine that even if some people drop out there will always be others there. It is an informal event so I can't see it being cancelled.

I really don't have a clue what time it will end. I wasn't absolutely sure if people would prefer an earlier (lunchtime) meeting with a chance to stay on into the evening if they want or an evening kick off, meeting at 5 or 6 pm and having dinner. Obviously forum meetings have always been during the day but then I suppose that's when the butterflies are about so that isn't a requirement in this case.

Sorry to be vague, i'll have a definitive answer soon.

Hi Gary, it was the Cricketers which was closed but it has reopened now under new management. If, for any reason, it is closed when we get there just decamp to the other pub.

The Dove has been suggested as an alternate venue as it is right next to a train station. Any thoughts on this? Is it preferrable?

Looks like the Dove closes at 3pm (last orders 2.30) so that isn't ideal either.

Don't go booking any tickets yet, Paul. Watch this space ...

Right ...

A bit more searching has turned up this gem which I think ticks all boxes. http://www.theoldforgeotterbourne.co.uk/

It is a short distance from a railway station and I am sure lifts can be arranged from there to the pub for anyone coming by train and it's close to the motorway.

It is open from 11am and doesn't close mid-afternoon. Food is served from 12 noon to 10 pm.

So, at the moment the attendees stand as:

Rogerdodge
Selbypaul
Piers
Mark Colvin (Sussex Salmon  )
Wurzel
Philzoid
Gibster (and Sami?)
PJ Underwood
ChrisC
Pete Eeles
and me :D
unfortunately Millerd can't make it this time :(

Obviously people are welcome to bring friends, family, small furry animals (not so sure about that last one, actually!) and stay for any length of time that suits.

It is a great pity I currently can't make it - I may yet be able to rearrange other commitments, but it looks unlikely. The location is interesting, as it is very close to where Victor Meldrew (a personal hero) met his untimely death... :(

Yep, you can definitely put me and Sami on the list. We've both managed to get out of work so we'll see you all there! Coolness :D

Perhaps you should PM him and arrange a private meeting, PJ.

I'm looking forward to coming along - any ideas yet what time it'll be kicking off and ending - then I know what train/bus to get or whether it's a car trip?

Cheers, have a goodun

Hi Wurzel, I was thinking something along the lines of meeting up at about 1pm but I have no idea what time it will finish I am afraid. I'll probably have lunch there. I imagine people will drift away when they are ready. I know that I am not able to stay too long but the pub is open until late evening so any hardcore drinkers amongst you might want to make a night of it.

I think some people may be bringing children so I don't imagine they will stay more than a couple of hours (but I could be wrong!).

Personally I don't want to make it too formal, I would rather people can come and go as they please and have a general natter with whomever they choose. If anyone has anything they think will be of interest, such as photos, cameras, books, or whatever then please feel free it bring it along but don't expect a serious critique session.

I will give the pub a ring before event and see if they can set some tables or a corner aside for us.

I'm going to try to make this. All being well I would hope to arrive at 1pm, but would have to leave by 4pm.

The revised list is therefore:

Rogerdodge
Mark Colvin
Wurzel
Philzoid
Gibster and Sami
P J Underwood and Mrs P J
ChrisC
Pete Eeles
Susie
RobS
Gruditch & Gwenhwyfar (aka Gary and Lisa)

I too, am sad that Piers cannot make it because I wanted to ask him about his latest avatar

Cheers,
Vince

EDIT: RobS added to the list on 18-11-11
EDIT: Gruditch & Gwenhwyfar added to the list on 19-11-11
EDIT: SelbyPaul cancelled and removed from list 20-11-11
EDIT: Vince Massimo cancelled and removed from list 25-11-11
