Yeah - apols for the confusion. I thought that using an album representing a "contest" would be fine, since it would allow folks to enter images between a start and end date, and prevent any images being added thereafter. I didn't realise the software would allocate first, second and third based on no votes whatsoever! Doh! And, unfortunately, it's not possible to add ratings once the comp. is over.

Anyway - we'll get this sorted for next year.

Cheers,

- Pete

I have looked at the entries again and felt that the following were of a very high standard:
Overseas
Clouded yellow ( Bill S) exceptional
Knapweed fritillary
Cyclad blue (remove brown background at bottom right)
and Marbled white at sunrise ( perhaps a tad more fill in light .)
UK in order
Wood white
Green-veined white
Swallowtail (Margaret C)
Large heath
Small heath -excellent
Pearl bordered fritillary
Silver-spotted skipper.
These were all great photos imo. :)

Hi Ian - if you follow Reverdin's example and provide comments directly with the images (if you have time) that would be much appreciated. That way, the photographers will see a good variety of feedback.

I'll try and add my comments this evening / tomorrow.

Cheers,

- Pete

It's probably been mentioned before, and it probably doesn't matter to anyone else, but having just found how to turn on the Exif info display in the galleries (and the e-mail to alert of gallery posts!) I notice that the time shown that the shots are taken is 6 hours out. I spotted that some images were taken several hours after sunset (which I thought was some pretty impressive flash work!) but then though my SSB shot can't have been taken at midday. Looking at the Exif on my computer it shows 6:12am which is more like it - I was just packing up for the day!

I guess it's showing for a different time zone?

It is; the servers are in Texas! Will look into this.

EDIT: think I've found it. Every user needs to set their timezone in the User Control Panel (under Board Preferences). Having said that, I don't think this should apply to Exif data, so will contact the author of the gallery to discuss!

Cheers,

- Pete

Hi Pete. I've also found, having turned on the gallery comments e-mail alerts, that the links in the e-mails don't work. I always get 'image not found' when clicking on them.

Thanks John - could you email me an example? Thx.

Very helpful comments on my photos from Fishiee and Reverdin. May I encourage as many of you as possible to review the competition entries and put your comments with the photos. :)

I agree. I've managed about 200 images so far, with lots more to do :)

Seriously - I've found the exercise really interesting, if only to see other's comments! I'm certainly learning as I go along.

Cheers,

- Pete

If anyone's interested, the following site was mentioned to me a few weeks back as a very good place to upload photos and recieve constructive critiqe by fellow members on your images.

http://www.photosig.com/

I have skimmed over the site and it does indeed look like people do generally give good honest critique on the images unlike a lot of sites where people praise everything and criticise nothing which doesn't help people to learn.
