renaming of the fungus 'Jew's Ear' to 'Ear Fungus' so as not to offend any bleeding-heart white liberals
and, of course, the Black Hairstreak becomes the Hairstreak of Colourl
Small Blue become Blue of Restricted Growth
Also, of course we have the Pea Gentlemans Parts
The Intoxicated Afro-Caribbean Fritillary

beats a hasty retreat..............................

You know what Roger, I could actually imagine this happening!!! Who would have thought fifteen years ago that expressions such as 'Chairman' would be passe? Apparently now I have to address 'The Chair'..! (rather than the individual sitting in it?)

The Doom Spider, The Creeping Death Spider are due for allocation.
How about Vagina Creeper Spider in honor of Dave?Hamearis

Ahem...just a minor point...but how come my utterly on topic post about Orange Tips got censored when this one didn't!! :D

It's not fair (weeps).

So technical names for female genitalia are acceptable when technical names for male genitalia are not?

Meanwhile on the topic of spiders...there does seem to be a large amount of monster ones invading our houses I have always been curious but are these big uns all the same species??

I'm not really a spider expert, but I do recall a little about the more widespread species... there are a few types of Common House Spider, all in the genus tegenaria, the two commonest are t.domestica and t.gigantea, though the gigantea isn't nearly as big as it sounds! Males look quite different to females too, with larger "palps" and appreciably smaller abdomen. We also get Mouse Spider in the house here in N.Yorks... it's not as leggy as the House Spiders and it moves much more purposefully... it has a brown shiny thorax and is the creepiest of all the spiders that come inside in my opinion!
