Meanwhile on the topic of spiders...there does seem to be a large amount of monster ones invading our houses I have always been curious but are these big uns all the same species??

I'm not really a spider expert, but I do recall a little about the more widespread species... there are a few types of Common House Spider, all in the genus tegenaria, the two commonest are t.domestica and t.gigantea, though the gigantea isn't nearly as big as it sounds! Males look quite different to females too, with larger "palps" and appreciably smaller abdomen. We also get Mouse Spider in the house here in N.Yorks... it's not as leggy as the House Spiders and it moves much more purposefully... it has a brown shiny thorax and is the creepiest of all the spiders that come inside in my opinion!
