Encourage birds and loose the butterflies?

I am sure that the robins would like the bacon but I don't think it would do them much good (unless it was a case of keeping them alive because they were starving). We used to put out bacon rinds for the birds when I was a kid too but we don't do it now.

Salty food isn't good for birds and can make them dehydrated.
