I know that Pete did a spot on raw v jpg and photoshop etc, at the last workshop, but I was very new to photography and didn't fully understand it all.
If a quick recap could be done, that would be great.

I too liked the critique session. I learned a lot from it, but could it be extended to an hour?

Adrian Riley was an excellent guest speaker, another none photographer with a talk would be great.

I like Gary's idea of a talk on flash photography. This is something that I have never tried.

I don't mind where the venue is, I shall find a way of getting there.

Cheers
Denise

HI all - and thanks for the excellent input. Given those that have responded thus far, it would sound like Gary's suggestion of Winterslow is the best candidate - since it minimises the travel for most folk. And I say this impartially, since it will take me 45 minutes to get there :) Anyhow - comments, as ever, are welcome.

Having said that, we have 2 options:

1. Early in the season when few (if any) butterflies are around. In which case, the venue doesn't have to be butterfly-friendly.

2. Later in the season when there are butterflies to be seen. Realistically, we're looking at late April. Even then, it could be a washout - but at least we'll have tried.

Again - comments please. Although this event is some way off, I know that some venues get booked up well in advance.

Cheers,

- Pete

I think it would be a great shame if we went to the famous Bentley Wood and there were no butterflies, so an early season date when there'd be a chance of seeing something of interest, say April, would be my preference.

Any idea yet when and where?

Provisionally Saturday 25th April at Winterslow in Wiltshire.

I'll discuss this with Gary on Saturday since there are some logistics to sort out - including the venue, and co-hosting with Butterfly Conservation.

co-hosting with Butterfly Conservation.
Can we get the president to do a talk? ;)

I hear he's a very busy guy! But you don't get what you don't ask for :)

There are quite a few vice-presidents that would also be worth considering!

Maurice Avent - Vice Chairman has a very hands on approach, and I for one would be very interested to hear from him.

Good thought. Maurice is also the new Chairman - taking over from Dudley Cheesman.

Adrian Riley will be a hard act to follow for sure. But someone like Chris Packham or Jim Asher would provide an excellent mix of both photographic experience and conservation experience. Having said that, speakers such as Martin Warren, Richard Fox or David Simcox are very inspirational!

- Pete

Count me in for this..... might even attract my better half!

particularly as Bentley Wood is a new site and there is a faint possibility of PBFs in late April.

As Maurice has emailed me several times since we met at West Yatton would you like me to suggest this to him???? I'm in no doubt that you know him well Pete.
