Fudge Brownies with orange Smarties on top might be appropriate.

Rosy
How many can you deal with - Brown hairstreaks, Cake - sounds like an ideal day - but it's a very long way do you do B & B?

If it weren't for the fact that I have the kids to look after I would seriously arrange a meet up for anyone who was interested tomorrow.

Thanks for the thought Rosie
I wouldn't be able to make it either - I was hoping to join the Shipton Bellinger tour today - but similarly the family has put paid to it - perhaps next year.

Brown Hairstreak eggs are on the blackthorn at the master tree site ... and on the blackthorn in my front garden (ain't gardening for nature wonderful?) so there should be plenty of them around here next year, all being well.

Wow! I really see what you mean Susie...
Brown Hairstreaks are a real pest at the moment; they are everywhere in Sussex!!
At one time today there were two egg-laying only 3 feet apart in the same blackthorn bush. Saw this one as she relaxed between bouts of egg-laying (thanks Sussex Kipper

Really nice pics Polly. I am so envious.
I did go to Shipton Bellinger yesterday and only managed two at ditance. One high up in a tree and a fly-by.
Well, there's always next year.

Hi all,
Report to the BC Sussex website below.
News for Sat 30 August: Ten people turned up at Steyning Rifle Range to have a look at the Brown Hairstreaks here, with some hoping for their first sighting of this species. The hairstreaks appeared at the ever-reliable 'start-up' time of 11:30 hrs and put on a good show. Seven females were seen before I left the site at 13:00 hrs, with four being recognisable as different insects based on 'wear and tear'. There could have been anywhere between four and seven individuals here. I later moved up to the Round Hill about half a mile away and saw a further three Brown Hairstreaks almost immediately, including a fresh looking female. A Hornet took a Small Tortoiseshell off the Hemp Agrimony and there are still a few Wall up here. Two very impressive fly-pasts - firstly the 'Battle of Britain Memorial Flight', then a female Goshawk.

They're only back AGAIN. Pesky little blighters all over the garden! Some of them are tiny, not even 2 mm at a guess so I reckon they hatched today.
